Temple Time Machine - Lyrics and Inspiration
Updated: Jun 19
Lost in endless alleyways Noisy dust bazaar Thinking of a time and place A spark flew from the fire
Twisted tree in Gethsemane Echoes, ancient stairs primeval is our history Lightning crosses years
What if I could go back? Do I See a new design? Why not take a new track? To the fountain of my find?
For a time machine to work It needs coordinates Well a shepherd won the day with just a stone For this pilgrim to take the hand extends eternal love Dial me in and take me right on home to you Temple Time Machine Here I go The joy to be the one you want to know Temple Time Machine | Palms on cold foundation stones hold the temple’s weight We’re together, sacred alchemy through ancient city gates What if we could go back? Do we see a new design? Why not take a new track? To the fountain of our find?
(Chorus) [David won the day...] It might be only fantasy But tell me where and when to be In case I find a pathway, see Two prayers could just deliver me
(Chorus) [King David...kiss the hand] Recorded at Beaird Studios, Nashville. Copyright 2026 Brightwood Clay. |
Inspiration
The song is rooted in a shared experience of touring Old City Jerusalem and the City of David. Every member of our group was visibly affected by touching the foundation stones of the temple mount deep underground. We were transported back in time as we passed by ritual baths used by worshippers millennia ago. The hustle-bustle of the above-ground passageways and shops also contrasted with the profound echoey quiet below ground at the City of David as we walked on the very stairs Jesus and the apostles would have walked to access the temple.
It was one of those experiences I would love to go back and do again. Running the scenes through my mind, I imagined the temple itself being some sort of time machine, where prayers could change the space-time continuum and allow us to meet up with the ones we want to know at the optimal moment.
